Presidential Awards 2008
Stichting Kapatiran one of four LINKAPIL Awardees of the Presidential Awards 2008
Since 1991 and every two years these awards are given to Filipinos or foreign individuals abroad as well as to organizations. The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) organizes the event. Anybody can nominate individuals or organizations. Kapatiran was nominated by Ms Adolovni P. Acosta who knew about the work Kapatiran is doing. Ms Acosta herself was a Pamana ng Pilipino Awardee in 2006 as a concert pianist. The awards are divided into four categories:
Linkapil (Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino Award – Service to Fellow Countrymen)
Kaanib ng Bayan (Affiliate of the Country)
Banaag (Distant Shimmer of the Country)
Pamana ng Pilipino (Heritage of the Filipino)

Kapatiran is very proud to be one of the awardees, not in the last place because it gives an enormous boost to its volunteers in the Philippines. Some of them, working in remote areas, had never before even visited the capital of Manila nor had been on a plane going there. Now they were given the opportunity to go there and, moreover, to be received at the Malacañang Palace by the President herself, proudly wearing their best traditional dress. A touch of glamour to their hard-working existence which they thoroughly enjoyed!
