Lions Club Zevenbergen takes up the cause of Kapatiran

The Lions Club in Zevenbergen opened the new year in June, during the annual transfer of the board, with the theme “Solidarity in Care”. In a short presentation the new president, Kees van der Slikke, announced the plans in Fort Sabina in Willemstad.

Attention will be focused on the Kapatiran Foundation this year and on a project that was started earlier; a children’s playground in the woods of Klundert.

It is the combination of care near home and very far away that will be emphasized. This fits Kapatiran’s mission perfectly, ‘kapatiran’ being the Philippine word for ‘brotherhood’.

The board feels therefore very honoured that Kapatiran will be the centre of attention this year. As if we get a place in the sun that is depicted on the Phillipine flag and also in Kapatiran’s logo that symbolizes hope.

The Lions give the children hope, for in various campaigns funds will be raised for educational projects in the Philippines.

The program includes a hospital concert in September, a tennis tournament in November, and in the spring of 2010 many campaigns are to follow, like a theme day in the woods of Klundert in April, a car rally and a golf tournament in May and in June there will be a herring eating festival and an evening sailing match.
